Arkansas-based Yuni Wa, is a multi-genre electronic musician that transcends the planes of our existence. We’ve been friends for many years, and it’s been great to see him progress as a musician, but also as his friend.

We spoke recently over an interview about his new album, ‘Allure’, American politics and more, which you can check out below:

We’ve done a few interviews in the past, and we love to talk about politics. The political climate has seemed to increase drastically every time we chat to each other. How are you currently feeling about American politics at the moment?

I feel honestly very disconnected with American politics. Between the far right administration trying to consolidate power, ICE getting billions in funding, and enabling the genocide in Gaza through US government funding, it is hard to find the light at the end of the tunnel in all of this.

Even as a leftist, I also have to acknowledge the failure of Democrats being unable to run candidates that leftist’s can really get behind. I believe the astronomical amount of pressure that is occurring though will force people to organize against these institutions more frequently which I believe is the baseline for real political change.

The federal government is going to keep doing the harmful things they do but regardless we have to look to our local communities to organize movements that fight for the working class, immigrants, and the victims of American imperialism.

Do you think there is a country or somewhere in the world that is doing something right, at the moment?

I’d say Brazil is doing something right by holding Jair Bolsonaro accountable. He spent a lot of time trying to undermine elections and gain power by planning a coup d'état and I think his corruption speaks for itself.

You recently had a tumor removed from your abdomen, which has wiped you out a bit on the creative side. What have you been doing to get by in that time?

I’ve been taking time away from music and I’ve been doing a lot of reading into Marxist theory and playing video games. Civilization VI has been a game I’ve played a lot during my recovery. Some nights I just couldn’t sleep so I’d play Civilization until the sun would rise. That game is a bit of a comfort game for me at this point.

Your new album “Allure” released last month, what would you say were the creative processes behind this album? What were the inspirations?

The inspiration behind 'Allure’ was very much based on the mystery and appeal of the internet age. The idea of also being bombarded with information so frequently and corporations trying to constantly seduce people with consumerism. I guess within the complexities of it all I wanted to make an album where people can sit and take the time to slow things down a bit and chill out. There’s a lot of things to be worked up about but as an artist I think the best thing I can do is create the space for people to be able to take time for themselves.

Is there one genre of music you haven’t delved into yet, but you would like to?

I think I’ve experimented with just about every genre I’m truly interested in over these last 12 years but I absolutely would love to get deeper into making more Jungle songs. There’s something so vibrant about the genre that draws me to it and I have a few songs within the genre on the internet but I would like to do more with it.

What is currently on repeat for you, music-wise at the moment?

Freddie Gibbs & Alchemist - Alfredo 2

From our conversations, being an electronic musician in Arkansas is a 'double-edged sword’, there are some good things about it and some bad things about it. What would you ultimately change about the Arkansas music scene if you could?

I would try to create more regional connection between different parts of the state. I think strengthening the network amongst producers and djs would be good also along with more diverse lineups for shows. I think EDM can be a bit alienating at times here and I think it would be good to see more EDM and Electronica mixed spaces.

Lastly, it’s nearly the end of 2025, what’s your favourite meme of the year?
